The Field Organizer will manage voter-contact programs, volunteers, campaign literature and yard signs, canvassing operations, and the systems needed to track campaign activity and follow up with supporters.

The ideal candidate has previous campaign experience and is comfortable working independently, managing volunteers, using VAN, and solving problems in a fast-moving political environment.

  • Monitor voter-contact progress against campaign goals.
  • Train volunteers and staff on canvassing procedures and voter-contact expectations.
  • Help develop and execute canvassing plans by neighborhood, geography, and campaign priority.

  • Provide clear instructions, materials, and support to volunteers.
  • Build relationships with reliable volunteers and identify potential volunteer leaders.
  • Help create a positive, organized, and welcoming volunteer experience.

Yard Signs & Campaign Materials

  • Develop and manage the campaign’s yard-sign distribution operation.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of signs and campaign materials.
  • Coordinate sign pickup, delivery, installation, and replacement.
  • Create and maintain a system for tracking sign requests, locations, and fulfillment.
  • Organize volunteer sign-distribution shifts.
  • Monitor sign distribution by neighborhood and campaign priority.
  • Coordinate retrieval and storage of signs and materials as needed.
  • Help manage other campaign literature and field materials.

Events & Grassroots Organizing

  • Support campaign events and grassroots activities.
  • Recruit volunteers for campaign events and community activities.
  • Help organize canvass launches, neighborhood events, visibility events, and other voter-contact activities.
  • Build relationships with neighborhood leaders, community members, and grassroots supporters.
  • Identify opportunities for the candidate to meet voters and engage with communities.
  • Follow up with people who express interest in supporting the campaign.

Field Operations & Reporting

  • Maintain organized field calendars, volunteer schedules, and campaign materials.
  • Track field metrics and provide regular updates to the Campaign Manager.
  • Identify gaps in voter contact, volunteer participation, or geographic coverage.
  • Help ensure field activities are completed on schedule.
  • Troubleshoot problems in the field and make adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain accurate campaign records and follow campaign data and compliance procedures.
  • Assist with Election Day planning and execution, including volunteer recruitment, scheduling, polling-place coverage, and get-out-the-vote activities.

  • Is an effective communicator and confident working with volunteers and members of the public.
  • Can motivate people and create a positive volunteer experience.
  • Is comfortable working evenings and weekends.
  • Can work independently while staying closely aligned with the Campaign Manager.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality and accurate campaign data.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Field Organizer will build a field operation that is organized, measurable, and increasingly powered by volunteers.

You will know:

  • How many voters the campaign needs to contact.
  • Where those voters are.
  • How many canvassers are needed.
  • Where volunteers are in the pipeline.
  • Which neighborhoods have been covered.
  • Where yard signs have been requested and delivered.
  • Which volunteers are becoming regulars.
  • What isn’t working, and what needs to change.

You don’t need someone to tell you every step. You should be able to look at the field operation, identify what is missing, and take action.

Schedule

This position requires significant evening and weekend availability, particularly during canvassing periods and the final weeks of the campaign.
